The AWK Programming Language

• The book is available at university bookstores but is much less likely to be stocked at the mall. You can order it online at Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble, or direct from Addison-Wesley.

• Source for the one true awk, updated May 1, 2007. Shell archive (330K); compressed tar file (85K); zip file (95K). There is also a Windows executable (140K).

• Examples from The AWK Programming Language by Aho, Kernighan, and Weinberger as text (120Kb) or zipped (30Kb).

• AWK is also available from GNU (GAWK); MKS as part of the MKS Toolkit; Thompson Automation Software (TAWK). GAWK is part of the Cygwin distribution. More AWK information can be found on the comp.lang.awk newsgroup.
