Biography
Adriaan J. (de Lind) van Wijngaarden was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1968. He received the engineering (M.Sc. equivalent) degree in electrical engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in 1992, and the doctorate degree in engineering from the University in Essen, Essen, Germany, in March 1998. From October 1992 to March 1998, he was a Research Engineer with the Digital Communications Group at the Institute for Experimental Mathematics, University of Essen, Germany. During this period, he was also a Visiting Scientist at the Communications Research Centre, Ottawa, ON, Canada, and at the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan. Since April 1998, he has been with the Mathematics of Communications Research Department, Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ. His research interests include communications, in particular error control coding, synchronization and modulation coding with applications in recording, optical and wireless communications.
